☐ Hockey socks

Step 1: Find your size

Hockey skates typically fit one-and-a-half to one size smaller than regular shoes, so pick your skate size accordingly.

Step 2: Put on your hockey socks

Bring a pair of hockey socks try on with your skates to ensure you are getting the most accurate fit.

Step 3: Put on the skates and move around

Once you have your skates on, kick your heel back and forth in the boot. Your feels should feel firmly tucked into the back of the boot and your toes should lightly touch the toe of the boot.

Step 4: Lace up snugly

Carefully tie your laces so they feel snug, but not too tight. You should start at the bottom of the skates, and work your way up the eyelets lacing tightly so it is a snug, but comfortable fit.

Step 5: Do a crouch test

Stand up in your skates with your feet shoulder-width apart and crouch down until your knees are just over your toes. If you can move your foot around the skate, the skates are too big. If your toes feel squeezed against the front of the boot in this position, the skates are too small.

Step 6: Do a comparison test

If you find your first pair fits perfectly right away, it’s always wise to try on many different models and brands to determine which skates are a perfect fit for you.
